Classical Conditioning Module Map

Purpose  To simulate the acquisition and extinction of conditioned associations.

Summary  The module opens with a review of Pavlov's famous experiment on the salivary response in dogs. Then the basic processes of classical conditioning are described: acquisition of the link between the CS and the UCS, eventually allowing the CS to evoke a CR; the generalization of the response to similar stimuli; discrimination training; and extinction of the CR. Finally, the student acts as experimenter attempting to produce a conditioned eyeblink in a human subject (played by the computer).
