The standard deviation

Researchers prefer the standard deviation because it provides a more precise measure of variability that takes all the scores into account.

The standard deviation is simply the average of the differences between the individual scores and the mean.

It's the average distance, or average deviation, from the mean.

To calculate the standard deviation, we need to find the difference between each score and the mean.
