Amplitude

The second important aspect of the sound wave is the amplitude, which is related to the distance from the peak to the valley of the wave.



The amplitude is measured in units of sound pressure, and controls the perceived loudness of the sound.

Another way of saying this is that the physical intensity of the sound depends on the amplitude.
